Water Use

In the face of the worst drought on record, managing our demand for water is a vital part of the state's four-way water security strategy.

South Australians should be commended for their water saving efforts under level three water restrictions to date.

As a community, we have saved more than 64 billion litres.

Water savings in the country under restrictions and permanent water conservation measures are also contributing. Total regional consumption is down more than 8,500 ML compared to the five year average.

A $24 million rebates package is also helping householders reduce their water use in their homes and gardens. Around half our homes have a rainwater tank and more tanks are being installed every day. In addition, all major industry users are implementing water efficiency plans to better manage their water use. And water allocated to irrigators is being carefully monitored as we encourage efficient irrigation practices.

This is a great effort by the South Australian community and one we should all continue to encourage.
